Java Mtn. is a moderate hike in the Great Bear Wilderness, part of the Hungry Horse Ranger District of Flathead National Forest in northwest Montana. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface out-and-back that climbs about 2,578 feet over roughly 8 miles, from a low of about 4,058 feet to a high of about 6,875 feet. Horses are allowed on the trail, so it works for riders as well as hikers. The route is a single loop, so the climb is one way to the top and back down. Several other hikes sit close by, including Java Creek about half a mile away and Logan-Dirtyface at about 0.6 miles. For an overnight base, Devil Creek Campground is about 5.7 miles off, and Bear Creek offers canoeing about 6.7 miles away.
