Hi Ho Silver is a 1.6-mile out-and-back hike in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, part of the Yellowstone Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest in Montana. The trail climbs from about 8,660 feet to a high point of 9,441 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,672 feet over the round trip. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.7 miles in, where the grade reaches 57 percent. The route is rated moderate, and the trail surface is natural. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. Plan on about 1.5 hours for the trip. Silver Lake lies about a mile away, and the U.S.G.S. and Trail Creek hikes are each roughly 3 miles off. For an overnight base, Fourmile Cabin is about 6 miles from the trail.
