Meatrack is a hard hike in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, part of the Yellowstone Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest in Montana. The route is an out-and-back of about 9 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 1,031 feet, taking you from a low point of about 6,710 feet to a high of about 7,787 feet. The trail is on natural surface and is open year-round. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The Forest Service manages the land. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Silver Gate, at a similar elevation, show July highs around 74°F with lows near 40°F, while winter highs stay in the 20s. Fourmile is a hike about 0.4 miles away, and Fourmile Cabin is a campground about 0.6 miles off. The Mile 18 climbing area is about 1.2 miles away, and Placer Basin is about 2.3 miles away.
