Grouse Lake is an easy, 3-mile out-and-back hike in the Three Rivers Ranger District of Kootenai National Forest in northwest Montana, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises about 220 feet from a low point of 2,579 feet to a high of 2,950 feet, and the route is natural-surfaced. Bikes are allowed, and the trail is not accessible. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the Troy weather station, about 8 miles away, show July highs near 87°F with lows around 49°F, and September cools to highs near 75°F with fewer wet days. The Grouse Lake Marsh Bypass starts just 0.2 miles away, and the Bull Lake Area and #423 Grouse Lake fishing spots are each about 0.7 miles off. For an overnight stay, Dorr Skeels Campground is roughly 6.7 miles away.
