Cherry Lake is a hard hike in the Bozeman Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest in Montana, about 8 miles from the trailhead. The route is an out-and-back that climbs from a low point of about 6,900 feet to a high of about 8,600 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 2,900 feet. The trail is on natural surface and is open year-round. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is rated hard. The climb is a long one, and the route is best suited to a full day. Two other hikes, Carpenter Creek and Red Knob, both lie about 2 miles away. The Madison River Area climbing area is about 6 miles off, and Spanish Creek Cabin offers camping about 8 miles from the trail.
