Beartrap Ponds is an easy, out-and-back hike of about 2.2 miles in the Rexford Ranger District of Montana's Kootenai National Forest. The trail gains about 365 feet from its low point of roughly 4,976 feet to the high point of about 5,388 feet, and the Forest Service manages the surrounding land. The route is natural surfaced, and bikes are allowed. Summer and early fall are the most comfortable times to go, with the trail typically open from June 1 to October 31. Beartrap Mountain sits less than a mile away. Climbers can head to Stone Hill and Lizard Slabs, both within about 2 miles, and the Koocanusa Area offers lake fishing about 2.3 miles off.
