Barren Peak is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Libby Ranger District of Montana's Kootenai National Forest, about 4.3 miles long with an elevation gain of 1,815 feet. The trail starts at Barren Peak TH 299, and the route rises from a low point of about 3,075 feet to a high of 5,084 feet on the summit. The trail is open from June 1 through November 30, and the Forest Service manages the land. The route is natural-surfaced, and both horses and bikes are allowed. For a longer outing, the Divide Trail 6 (Silver Butte) lies about 2.5 miles away, and the North Fork Miller Creek hike is about 2.7 miles off. Lake Creek Campground, about 2.8 miles away, offers a place to stay, and the Fisher River, about 3 miles away, is a paddling option.
