Katahdin View is a short, easy cross-country ski route in northern Maine, set within a cluster of trails and hiking paths. The out-and-back trip covers about 0.9 miles with a total elevation gain of 159 feet, so it's a gentle way to add a little lift to a day on the snow. The route starts and ends at roughly 691 feet, climbing to 787 feet before returning. The steepest part comes at about 0.38 miles, where the grade reaches about 5%. The nearest town is Norcross, about 6.3 miles away. For winter outings, the most comfortable months are typically January and February, when typical highs average around 24 to 26°F and lows sit near 5 to 6°F, according to averages from the nearby Millinocket weather station. Those figures are typical for the station's lower elevation, so temperatures on the route run cooler. Summer is much warmer, with July and August highs averaging about 78°F. The route sits right next to the Twin Pines Loop and the Golden Road, both about 0.1 mile away, and the Hammond Ridge Trail is about half a mile off.
