About Guffey Butte

Guffey Butte is a summit on Bureau of Land Management land in the Boise District of southwestern Idaho, about 5 miles from the town of Murphy. The butte is the centerpiece of a small cluster of hiking routes, and the closest trails give the most direct way to approach it on foot. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 75°F and October highs near 68°F, while July averages about 95°F. That station sits several hundred feet below the butte, so temperatures on top run a little cooler. The Guffey Butte Trail starts less than a mile away, and Guffey Butte Ridge is about a mile off for a longer outing. Halverson Bar/Lake, roughly 2.4 miles away, offers lake fishing, and the Swan Falls climbing area is about 8.5 miles distant.
