The Fins is a climbing area in Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, within the Lost River Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the area sits among several other climbing spots and a short hike, making it a compact destination for climbers and hikers alike. The climbing here is all sport, with five routes ranging from 5.7 to 5.12c. The Ginsu is the easiest at 5.7, and Wascally Wabbit is the hardest at 5.12c. The Head Wall, Solstice and Yellow Cake all lie within about a tenth of a mile, and the Climber's Path hike starts just as close. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 82°F with lows near 47°F, while winter brings highs in the low 30s and regular snow days from December through February. That station sits about 1,500 feet lower than the area, so temperatures at The Fins run cooler.
