Trail D is a short, easy mountain biking route in Idaho's Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District, part of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is an out-and-back that starts and ends at nearly the same elevation, with a total climb of about 592 feet over a 1.7-mile round trip. The high point reaches about 4,128 feet, and the steepest stretch comes within the first tenth of a mile, with a grade of about 18 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 81°F and lows near 52°F, while winter highs stay in the mid-30s. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. Trail 29 "Big Trees" lies just 0.1 mile away, and Cave Trail is about 0.4 mile off. For a hike, Trail B is roughly 0.7 mile away. Mokins Bay Campground, about 4.4 miles away, is the closest place to camp.
