Trail A is a short, hard mountain biking route in Idaho's Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District, part of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. It's a 1.6-mile out-and-back with a 168-foot elevation gain, so it's a brief ride with a modest climb. The trail starts at about 3,300 feet and reaches a high point of 3,302 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.45 miles in, where the grade reaches 17%. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Coeur d'Alene show July and August highs around 83°F with only about four wet days a month. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the climb run cooler. The Canfield Mountain Trail Cmplex Tr-7 and the Canfield Mountain Trail Cmpx-Penn Tr-8 are both within a quarter mile, so the ride fits easily into a longer day on the Canfield Mountain Trail network. Mokins Bay Campground is about 5 miles away, and Wolf Lodge Creek offers canoeing about 6.5 miles out.
