Hot Shot is a mountain biking route on Bureau of Land Management land in the Burley Field Office in southern Idaho, about 3 miles from the town of Burley. The ride is an out-and-back of roughly 6.4 miles, with a total climb of about 1,200 feet and a high point of 5,591 feet. The route starts at about 5,539 feet and ends at the same elevation, so the climb is split evenly between the ascent and descent. The steepest stretch comes at about 1.4 miles in, where the grade reaches 9 percent. The route is rated hard, so plan on a ride that demands both fitness and technical skill. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Twin Falls show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 76°F, with July and August peaking near 88°F. That station sits about 1,400 feet lower than the route's high point, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. Several other mountain biking routes sit close by, including Snakeskin at 0.4 miles and Snakeskin Cut-Off at 0.8 miles. Smitty's Loop is about 1.5 miles away, and Rock Creek, a canoeing spot, is roughly 5 miles off.
