W is a 7.6-mile out-and-back hike in Idaho's Payette National Forest, within the Weiser Ranger District. The trail runs from a low point of about 4,000 feet to a high of about 5,700 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,731 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is open year-round. The climb is a significant one. It rises from a starting point near 4,000 feet to a high point of about 5,700 feet, and the trail is rated hard. The route is natural surface, and both horses and bikes are allowed. The trip is a single, straight line from the low to the high, so there is no round-trip route to plan around. That makes the distance and the gain the key figures for timing and pacing. Several other hikes start within a few miles, including Wash Pan-Mill Creek about 1.3 miles away and Coffee Flat Trail and Sturgill Ridge at about 3.4 miles.
