Squib Canyon is a hard hike in Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, on the Lost River Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 7,625 feet to nearly 10,000 feet, with a total elevation gain of 2,288 feet over a route of about 9 miles. The trailhead is at Squib Trailhead, and the Forest Service manages the land. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows bikes, so riders can take it on a mountain bike. It is open year-round, and the parking area is named Squib Trailhead. The climb is a significant one, and the route is rated hard. Plan on a full day, and consider the weather before heading out. The high point of the hike sits at about 9,978 feet. Nearby, Hunter Creek and North Fork Lake are both within about 3 miles. Phi Kappa Campground and Park Creek Campground are a little over 6 miles away, so either makes a good base for an overnight trip.
