Rick Creek is a moderate hike in Idaho's Caribou-Targhee National Forest, within the Soda Springs Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is about 3 miles long, with a total elevation gain of roughly 1,680 feet over the out-and-back route. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows both horses and bikes. The steepest stretch comes early, around 0.4 miles in, with a grade of about 16 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 80°F with lows near 43°F, and July and August have the fewest wet days of the year. That station sits about 900 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the ridge run cooler. Nearby, North Fork Tincup and the Tincup Connector are both about 2 miles away. Pine Bar campground is about 3 miles off, and Lanes Creek offers canoeing about 6 miles away.
