Rat Creek is a hard hike in Idaho's Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, on the Middle Fork Ranger District of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 5,674 feet to 8,233 feet, a total gain of 2,523 feet over a route of about 22.6 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, but bikes are not permitted. That makes it a route for hikers on foot or on horseback, with no room for a bike. The surrounding area offers several other outings within a few miles. Cottonwood Creek is about 3 miles away, and Tin Cup Campground is about 3.8 miles off. Loon Creek, a canoeing spot, and Cold Creek, another hike, are both within about 5 miles.
