East Mayfield - Yankee Fork is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, within the Challis-Yankee Fork Ranger District. The trail is about 0.7 miles long, with a total elevation gain of about 415 feet, and it is managed by the Forest Service. The route starts at a low point of about 8,532 feet and climbs to a high point of about 8,736 feet. The steepest stretch comes early on, around 0.17 miles in, with a grade of about 13 percent. The climb is gentle enough to fit into a longer day on the forest's trails. The hike takes about half an hour, so it works well as a quick stop before or after exploring the surrounding area. Nearby, the Eleven Mile-Martin Creek and Challis Creek hikes are both within about 5 miles. Paddlers can head to the Yankee Fork or East Fork Mayfield Creek, and Custer #1 Campground is about 9 miles away.
