North Blacktail is a hard hike in Idaho's Priest Lake Ranger District, part of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests. The trail is about 5 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 2,228 feet, and it rises from a low point of 2,866 feet to a high of 5,151 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is an out-and-back. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows bikes, but it is not accessible. The open season runs from June 1 to September 30, so plan a trip for summer or early fall. Plowboy Mountain sits just 0.2 miles away, and Beaver Creek campground and the Beaver Creek lake fishing spot are both about 1.7 miles off. Plowboy campground is roughly 1.9 miles away.
