Lightning Creek is a 19-mile out-and-back hike in the Challis-Yankee Fork Ranger District of Idaho's Salmon-Challis National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts at about 6,580 feet and rises to about 9,535 feet, with a total elevation gain of 142 feet over the course of the trip. The route is rated hard, and the trail surface is natural. Bikes and horses are both allowed. Several other routes lie within a few miles. Cabin-Pioneer Creek is about 3.6 miles away, and Crimson Lake Trail and East Mayfield - Yankee Fork are each about 4.9 miles off. For an overnight base, Bonanza Group Campground sits about 7.1 miles away.
