Eakin Ridge is an easy hike of about 20 miles in the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, in the West Fork Ranger District of Idaho's Bitterroot National Forest. It is a long out-and-back route that climbs from a low point of about 2,787 feet to a high point of about 8,126 feet. The trail is natural-surface, and the Forest Service manages the land. The route's distance and elevation make it a serious commitment. Plan on allowing the full length for the round trip. The high point is well above the low, so a full day or more is the realistic time frame. Several other destinations sit within a few miles. Waugh Mtn-West Horse and Elkhorn Mountain are hikes about a mile and a half away, and Wendover Campground is close by for an overnight stay. Mount Harrington is a little farther out.
