Dempsey Flat is an easy hike of about 1.6 miles in the New Meadows Ranger District of Payette National Forest in Idaho, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back that gains about 480 feet, from a low point of about 7,267 feet to a high of about 7,751 feet. The route is natural-surfaced and allows bikes, so it works for hikers and riders alike. It's a short, low-commitment outing that fits easily into a day of exploring the surrounding area. Lake Creek and Lake Creek Point are both within about 1.5 miles, and Shorts Bar campground is about 7 miles away. Paddlers can head to Hazard Creek, roughly 8 miles off.
