Cougar Saddle is a hard hike in the McCall Ranger District of Idaho's Payette National Forest, about 4 miles from the district's boundaries. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 5,900 feet to about 7,700 feet, with a total gain of roughly 1,800 feet. The trail is natural-surface and accessible, and it allows both horses and bikes. The Forest Service lists it as accessible, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. For more time in the area, Kennally Creek Campground sits about 4 miles away, and the East Fork Kennally Creek hike is about 2.5 miles off. Needles Summit is about 3.5 miles away, and the Jug Handle Bouldering climbing area is about 6 miles away.
