Beaver is a hard hike in Idaho's Boise National Forest, within the Idaho City Ranger District. The route is an out-and-back of about 15 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 1,885 feet, taking you from a low point of about 5,092 feet to a high of about 6,240 feet. The Forest Service manages the land. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Deadwood Lodge, at a similar elevation, show July highs around 82°F with lows near 40°F, while winter highs stay in the low to mid 30s. Several other outings sit close by. Ralph's and Ridge are both hikes within about a mile and a half, and Willow Creek Campground is about 3 miles away. The Crooked River, a canoeing spot, is roughly 3 miles off.
