Anderson Creek is a hard out-and-back hike in Idaho's Boise National Forest, within the Cascade Ranger District. The route is 14.7 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 3,670 feet, and it starts and ends at about 4,845 feet. The high point is 6,805 feet, and the climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 1.8 miles in, where the grade reaches 21%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Deadwood Lodge, which sits about 850 feet lower, show July highs around 82°F with lows near 40°F. That station's figures are not adjusted for the higher elevation on this trail, so expect cooler temperatures up top. The trip takes about 6.5 hours. French Creek campground is 1.5 miles away, and Skein Lake and Campbell Creek are both within 2 miles. Big Flat campground is about 8 miles off.
