Alpine is an easy out-and-back hike in Idaho's Boise National Forest, within the Idaho City Ranger District. The route is about 5.3 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 389 feet, and it is managed by the Forest Service. The most comfortable months for a visit are typically June and September. Typical averages from the nearby Lowman weather station show June highs around 77°F and September highs around 76°F, while July and August climb into the mid-80s. The trail sits close to several other outdoor spots. Twister Link and Banner Ridge, both cross-country ski routes, are within half a mile, and the Lower Banner Trail is about 0.5 miles away. Mountain View campground is roughly 3.9 miles off.
