Addis Gap is an easy hike of about 1.6 miles in the Tray Mountain Wilderness, part of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests in north Georgia. The land is managed by the State Department of Natural Resources, and the trail lies within the Chattooga River Ranger District and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail corridor. It also borders the Swallow Creek Wildlife Management Area. The route is an out-and-back with a total climb of about 808 feet, from a low of about 3,012 feet to a high of about 3,333 feet. The steepest stretch comes early, around 0.23 miles in, with a grade of about 13 percent. Bikes are allowed on the natural-surface trail, but horses are not. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station run from highs around 74°F in June to about 77°F in July, with lows near 60°F. Winter is cold, with January highs around 45°F and lows near 26°F. Deep Gap Trail starts just 0.3 miles away, and Moccasin Creek Trail is about 0.8 miles off. North Fork Trail and Sassafrass Cove Trail are both within about 1.7 miles.
