West Mtn South Cliff Loop is a short, easy loop hike of about 0.3 miles on the West Mountain Refuge (McManus Section) in Connecticut. The route rises about 31 feet from a low point of 718 feet to a high of 776 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 0.17 miles in, where the grade reaches 2 percent. The climb is flat overall, and the loop makes a quick addition to a visit to the refuge. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Danbury show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 74°F, with July the warmest month at about 82°F. That station sits roughly 320 feet lower than the loop, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. The West Mountain Refuge South Trail and the West Mountain Refuge North Loop both start within about a tenth of a mile, and the West Mountain Refuge North Link to Road is about 0.4 miles away. Mountain Lakes, a climbing area in New York, is about 2.9 miles off.
