West Crest Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 2 miles from the town of Killingworth. The route is a point-to-point trail of roughly 1.1 miles, with a total elevation gain of 292 feet and a high point of 375 feet. The climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.34 miles in, where the grade reaches 29 percent. The trail is rated easy, and the trip takes about half an hour. Horses are allowed on the trail, according to a tag from OpenStreetMap. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Meriden run to highs around 70°F in May and 75°F in September, with July the warmest month at about 84°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. Several other trails and climbing areas lie close by. The Covered Bridge Trail is about 0.3 miles away, and the Nature Trail and Ridge Trail are each about 0.6 miles off. Climbers can head to Chatfield Hollow Main Wall, about 0.6 miles away.
