Red Trail is a short, easy loop in Connecticut, about half a mile long and rising from 454 feet to 500 feet. It sits in the Canton Valley area, roughly 0.6 miles from the town of Canton Valley. The trail is a loop, and the climb is gentle. The steepest stretch comes early on, at about 0.12 miles in, with a grade of 4 percent. The total gain is 22 feet, and the total loss is 85 feet, so the route is nearly flat overall. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Burlington show May highs around 70°F and September highs around 75°F, with July the warmest month at about 84°F. The trail is close to several other routes. Blue Trail and Yellow Trail are each about 0.1 mile away, and Gray Trail is about 0.2 mile away. For a change of pace, the East Branch Farmington River, about 4.8 miles off, offers canoeing.
