Red Rectangle is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 1.1 miles from the town of Guilford. The route is a point-to-point walk of roughly 0.44 miles, with a total elevation gain of 27 feet and a total loss of 51 feet. The climb is flat, and the steepest stretch comes early, at about 3% grade. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in New Haven show May highs around 68°F and September highs around 75°F, with July the warmest month at about 82°F. Spencers Creek Trail and Yellow Triangle are both about 0.3 miles away, and White Circle is about 0.8 miles off. Climbers can head to Westwoods (Cockaponset State Forest), also about 0.8 miles away.
