Peat Swamp Loop is an easy hike of about 2.2 miles in Connecticut, roughly 2 miles from Ansonia. The route rises from about 490 feet to about 517 feet, with a total elevation gain of 252 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.6 miles in, where the grade reaches about 11 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Ansonia show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 75°F, while July and August average about 82°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. The Hemlock Hollow Loop starts just 0.2 miles away, and the Naugatuck Forest Trail and Raptor Woods Trail are both within about a mile and a half. Climbers can find Naugatuck State Forest about 2.8 miles off.
