The McCormack Blue Trail is a 1.9-mile loop in Connecticut, about a mile from West Redding. It's a short, easy hike with an elevation gain of 180 feet and a low of about 540 feet, making it a gentle outing that fits easily into a few hours on foot. The trail rises to 719 feet before coming back down to its starting point, and the steepest stretch occurs around 0.97 miles in, with a grade of about 9 percent. That makes it a comfortable walk for anyone looking to get outside close to town, with no need for a full-day commitment. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Danbury show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 74°F, with July the warmest month at about 82°F. The station sits roughly 260 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run a bit cooler. The White Furlough Trail lies just 0.3 miles away, and Saul's Loop and Jamice's Loop are each about 0.4 miles off. Climbers can head to Sativa Slab, about 2.6 miles from the trail.
