Hird Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 1.2 miles from the town of Killingworth. The route is 0.61 miles long, with a total elevation gain of 22 feet, and it is a point-to-point trail rather than a loop. The climb is flat overall, with the steepest stretch at about 0.24 miles in, where the grade reaches 2 percent. The trail's high point is 393 feet, and the low point is 360 feet. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Meriden run to highs around 70°F in May and 75°F in September, with July the warmest month at about 84°F. That station sits roughly 290 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the trail run a little cooler. The trail makes an easy addition to a longer outing. Welter Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and Nature Center Trail is 0.3 mile off. Bosco Trail and the climbing at Canfield Woods, Book Hill are both about 0.8 mile away.
