Gneiss Trail is a short, easy loop in Limekiln Natural Area in Connecticut, about 1.3 miles long and roughly 127 feet of elevation gain. The trail starts at about 640 feet and reaches a high of 753 feet before returning to a lower point of 595 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.54 miles in, with a grade of 18 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Danbury show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 74°F, with July the warmest month at about 82°F. The trail sits among several other short hikes. Boulder Trail and The Lariat are each about 0.1 mile away, and Split Rock Trail is about 0.2 mile off. Climbers can find Slugs & Crickets Block about 0.4 mile away.
