Deep Woods Trail is an easy hike in Connecticut, about 1.5 miles from the town of Killingworth. The route is a point-to-point walk of roughly 1.7 miles with a total elevation gain of 196 feet, climbing from about 192 feet to 316 feet before descending to a lower point around 147 feet. The steepest part comes near the end, at about 1.6 miles, where the grade reaches 9 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mt Carmel put May highs around 71°F and September highs around 76°F, while July peaks near 85°F. The station sits lower than the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run a little cooler. Horses are allowed on the trail. The trip takes about half an hour, and the trail network connects to several other outings close by. Nature Trail and Chatfield Hollow Main Wall lie about 0.2 miles away, Chimney Trail and White Pond Trail are each about 0.3 miles off, and paddlers can reach the Hammonasset River about 2.3 miles away.
