Blue Trail is a short, easy hike in Connecticut, about 0.6 mile from Canton Valley. At 0.24 mile, it's one of the quickest outings in the area and suits a short walk or a warm-up before a longer loop on the connecting trails. The route gains about 26 feet one way and loses about the same. The steepest stretch comes early, around 0.08 mile in, and even there the grade tops out near 4 percent. The rest of the walk stays gentle, ranging from roughly 430 to 480 feet in elevation. Late spring and September are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Burlington show September highs around 75°F with lows near 53°F. Red Trail and Yellow Trail both start about 0.1 mile away, and Gray Trail is 0.2 mile off, so it's easy to stitch several together. Paddlers can head about 5 miles to the East Branch Farmington River.
