It runs from a starting point near 427 feet to a high point of 430 feet, with a total elevation gain of 112 feet. The trail is a point-to-point route, and the steepest stretch comes at about 0.7 miles in, with a grade of 11 percent. The nearest town is Highland, about a mile away. The trail is part of a network of hiking and climbing routes in the area, and it makes a quick outing for anyone exploring the surrounding trails. For comfortable weather, late spring and early fall are the best bets. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Meriden run to highs around 70°F in May and 75°F in September, while July highs reach about 84°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. Discovery Trail lies about 1.5 miles away, and Chauncey Peak, a climbing area, is about 1.9 miles off. The Red Trail and White Trail are each about 2 miles away.
