Outlying Boulders is a climbing area on Bureau of Land Management land within the Uncompahgre Field Office in Colorado. The surrounding area is a cluster of climbing spots and mountain biking trails, so it works well as a base for a day of bouldering or a longer outing with both climbing and riding. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring or early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Montrose #2 weather station show May highs around 74°F and September highs near 79°F, while July averages about 90°F and winter brings highs in the low 40s and a few snowy days a month. Several climbing areas sit within a short distance, including Mars Landing about 0.4 miles away and Wild Flower Boulder (Boulder Field) about 0.5 miles away. The Ohm-Ward Bound mountain biking trail is about 0.3 miles off, and Riverbend RV Park offers camping about 6.5 miles away.
