Chickadee is a short mountain biking route in Colorado's Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, within the Sulphur Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the ride covers about half a mile with a climb of about 200 feet from a starting point near 9,377 feet to a high point of about 9,399 feet. The route is a quick outing, and the climb is steepest at about 0.15 miles in, with a grade of about 14 percent. The trail also has a small drop of about 176 feet, so the total gain and loss are close to even. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical averages from the nearby Fraser weather station, which sits about 800 feet lower, show July highs around 77°F and lows near 38°F, while winter highs stay around 31°F with lows near -1°F. The Chickadee Trail hike starts just 0.1 mile away, and the Blue Sky mountain biking area is about 0.4 mile off. Climbers can head to Vasquez Road, about 0.6 mile away, and Idlewild Campground is about 1.1 mile away for an overnight stay.
