Prospect is an easy loop hike of about 2.4 miles in Colorado's White River National Forest, within the Eagle Ranger District. The trail runs from a low point of 8,805 feet to a high of 9,329 feet, with a total climb of 538 feet. The Forest Service manages the land. The trail is natural-surfaced and carries horses, so riders can take their mounts along. Bikes are not allowed. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical July highs reach about 79°F with lows near 46°F at a nearby weather station in Yampa, and the station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the loop run cooler. Winter is cold, with typical January highs around freezing. The hike takes about an hour. It makes an easy outing close to several other spots. Ute - Deep, a mountain biking trail, is about 0.2 miles away. Harold's Tie is a hike about 0.8 miles off. Sweetwater Lake Recreation Area is about 1.9 miles away for camping. Cross Creek, a fishing spot, is about 1.6 miles away.
