Engert Homestead is an easy, short hike in the Canyon Lakes Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests in Colorado, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is about 1.5 miles long and rises roughly 150 feet from a low point of 8,563 feet to a high of 8,726 feet, making it an out-and-back with a gentle climb. The route is natural-surfaced and open to both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and equestrians as well as hikers. It stays open year-round, and the Forest Service lists it as a year-round trail. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Allenspark run to highs around 74°F in July with lows near 44°F, while winter highs sit in the low 30s. Homestead Meadows and Hill Homestead both lie about 0.4 miles away. Climbers can head to Big Elk Meadows - Boulders, about 2.7 miles off, and paddlers to North Saint Vrain Creek, about 5.5 miles away.
