Cherry Creek is a hard hike in Colorado's White River National Forest, within the Rifle Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 7,000 feet to nearly 9,000 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 2,000 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is accessible and allows horses. The route starts at the Cherry Creek parking area, which is open year-round. The climb is steep, and the trail is natural-surface, so plan for a long day on foot or horseback. Nearby, the Last Chance hike is just 0.4 miles away, and the Cherry Creek Connector is about 1.2 miles off. For an overnight stay, Rifle Mountain Park campground is 2.5 miles away, and the Meat Wall climbing area is 2.7 miles away.
