Cascade Chute is a moderate out-and-back hike of about 3.4 miles on natural-surface trails in the Sulphur Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests in Colorado. The route climbs from about 9,400 feet to about 10,080 feet, with a total elevation gain of 678 feet. The trail is managed by the Forest Service and allows both horses and bikes. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Grand Lake, which sits well below the trail, show July highs around 76°F with lows near 40°F, and winter brings highs around 30°F and frequent snow days from December through February. The open season runs from June 1 to November 15. Sherman Creek Trail, a mountain biking route, is about half a mile away, and the Lost Lake and Gilsonite 3 hikes are both within a mile. For an overnight stay, Denver Creek Campground is about 6.7 miles off.
