Mary E Campground is a Forest Service campground in the Norwood Ranger District of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests in southwest Colorado, about 1.4 miles from the Telluride 4wnw weather station. The station sits at 8,646 feet, and the campground sits a few hundred feet lower. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from that nearby station run from highs around 73°F in June to about 77°F in July, with September easing to around 68°F. Winters are cold, with January highs near 36°F and lows near 0°F. A fee is charged. The closest trails are Coal Chutes, about a mile away, and Penelope's Trail, just beyond it. Climbers can reach the Northern San Juans and Society Turn within about 1.6 miles.
