Black Star Canyon Bouldering is a bouldering area in California's Cleveland National Forest, within the Trabuco Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land, and the climbing is all bouldering, with seven routes spread across the canyon. The boulders range from V1-2 to V7, with the median grade around V3. The hardest route is Slick Nugget at V7, and the easiest is Suz at V1-2. The area is a compact cluster of problems rather than a long route, so a single visit can cover several of them. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Irvine run from highs around 76°F in April to 84°F in October, while July and August average highs near 90°F. That station sits about 600 feet lower than the canyon, so temperatures up high run cooler. Several hikes lie within a few miles, including Silverado Creek at about 2.3 miles, Limestone Ridge Trail at 2.8 miles and Black Star SCE Trail at 2.9 miles.
