The Attic Boulder is a bouldering area in California's Eldorado National Forest, within the Amador Ranger District. It sits on Forest Service land, and its name is a clue to what it offers: a small cluster of boulders rather than a full-scale climbing crag. The boulder area is home to five bouldering routes, all rated between V5 and V7 on the V scale. The hardest is Hamms Station at V7, and the easiest is The Attic at V5. Among the others are Freak of Nature Traverse and Ghost in the Attic, both V6, and Tweak of Nature, also V6. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the South Lake Tahoe airport weather station, about 16.5 miles away and roughly 800 feet lower, show July and August highs around 80°F with lows in the low 40s and only a couple of wet days a month. Winter is colder, with highs near 43°F and lows in the teens. The Attic Boulder sits right next to the Silver Lake-Horse Canyon Trail, about a tenth of a mile away, and The Basement and The Freaks, two other climbing areas, are each about 0.3 miles off. For an overnight stay, Silver Lake Campground is about half a mile away.
