Summit is a hard hike in the Western Divide Ranger District of Sequoia National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back of about 10.4 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 1,332 feet, taking you from a low point of 7,440 feet to a high point of 8,572 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses, so riders can take it as well as hikers. It is open year-round, and the trip is rated hard, so plan for a long, steep day. Lewis Camp lies about half a mile away, and Quaking Aspen campground is under a mile off. The Summit Trail and Freeman Creek hikes are both within about 1.6 miles.
