The Salmon River Trail is an easy 2.5-mile out-and-back hike in the Ukonom Ranger District of Six Rivers National Forest in California, managed by the Forest Service. The trail rises about 100 feet from a low point of 508 feet to a high of 603 feet, and its natural surface makes it a simple walk for hikers, riders and horseback travelers. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Orleans show May highs around 77°F and October highs around 71°F, while July and August average in the low 90s. Somes Mountain Trail is less than a mile away, and Red Wing Mine and Oak Bottom Campground are both within about a mile and a half. Paddlers can reach the Salmon River about 5 miles off.
