Sagehen Nordic Loop is a 6.6-mile loop hike in the Truckee Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The trail starts at about 6,416 feet and climbs to a high point of 6,784 feet, with a total gain of 935 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 3.1 miles, where the grade reaches 14 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Sagehen Creek weather station, which sits a few hundred feet lower, show July highs around 80°F with lows near 37°F, while winter highs stay in the low 40s. Hobart Loop, a cross-country ski route, is about 1.3 miles away. Forty Tie is a hike about 2.6 miles off, and Lower Little Truckee and Upper Little Truckee campgrounds are both within about 3.5 miles.
